Ashwagandha is a famous herbal rejuvenating tonic in Ayurveda. Ashwagandha is used as an aphrodisiac and geriatric tonic and indicated in nervous weakness and general and sexual debility. It has sedative properties and useful in insomnia and stress.
Various research has been carried out for its sedative properties’. Trebut investigated its reputation for hypnotic properties. P.L. Simmonds (Amer. J. Pharm. Feb. 1891) states that the plant is used at the Civil Hospital, Alger, as a sedative.

The standardized extract is obtained from the roots of Withania somnifera, commonly known as Ashwagandha. In Ayurveda Ashwagandha is described as a “rasayana” or rejuvenator that enhances longevity. Ashwagandha is one of the famous Ayurvedic herbs and that is equal to Ginseng. Ashwagandha is one of the major ingredients in Ayurvedic formulation.
Dose: 1-2 Capsules twice a day after meals.
